My partner and I had a civil union in Vermont in 2002. We stayed together until this past year. She had a baby when we got together. I have been in my daughter's life, serving as her parent for over six years. She wants to come live with me and I want her to also. Her mother is in a new relationship and her lover seems supportive of my relationship with my daughter. My ex is currently undergoing some psychological problems that has shown us both that our daughter is not safe living there if there is no other adult around all the time. (the ex is exhibiting reggresive behavior- to age 8) I don't want her to lose her connection to our daughter, however I don't want my daughter to be parenting her mother at six and a half. Will being determined to be her de facto parent help in this situation or is there a simpler way to ensure that My daughter can stay with me until her mother is more psychologically stable?
