I haven't had the need to write in a LONG time, but I am now faced with a big problem!! I live in Michigan. My daughter's father resided in VA when child support was decided. He then moved to PA after paying support for only 6 or 7 months. Since about March I had been trying to get MI Friend of the Court to get things going in PA for the child support to start again. Well, yesterday we find out he as now quit whatever job he had in PA and moved to SC!! I'm pretty sure where he lives there and can probably provide FOC with the address and phone number. I'm just not sure I want to persue this any longer! How long do I have to not receive support and have no communication with him in order to file for abondonment?? Does there have to be a husband to adopt in order for this to happen?? If I can get his rights terminated through abondonment, can I still sue him for the amount of support owed up to the date of terminated rights? I have supported my daughter fully since support ceased and do not plan to get state assistance of any kind, but I do believe that I should be reimbursed for the expenses thus far if he is to not be responsible for the rest of her life. In the least, that money could start a nice size college account for her! Please please help me out here, I have no idea what road to take at this point and I am not married at the present time so there is not another man to adopt her. The father has only seen my daughter 2 times and she is almost 2years old, the last time being on her 1st birthday. SOrry this wasn't brief, but I haven't been on here is so long and thought the whole story needed to be told. Thank you in advance for any help.
