June 10, 2025 I traded in a 2022 car for a smaller 2019 car and a check for the difference.

June 17, 2025 by this point brake noise had gotten bad enough that I had a local mechanic look at it. They drove it around the block and looked at the brakes and confirmed the rotors were warped and pads were about 50% and likely glazed. They charged me nothing, it was quick and informal, they were so busy I had to park across the street. I filed a BBB complaint after because this Toyota dealership pushed it was fully inspected and in good condition with 33,500 miles.

The dealership offered to inspect it again or a $200 check. Neither was sufficient and they were a 100 mile drive one way.

Also they had delayed my check stating it was so they could do the title documents properly. Eventually they delivered the check.

Then they also admitted to knowing there was heat and vibration when they provided their service records, it was nicely hidden, checked yes like everything else. Like the brake pad thickness question at least 5mm was a yes/no question on there.

They stated they turned the rotors and the pad thickness was exactly 5mm , but stopped responding when I pointed out turning rotors on a newer vehicle isn't standard practice, replacement is and reusing those 5mm pads that were subjected to heat and vibration and likely glazed is not a safe combination. I provided pictures of streaks and gaps showing there wasn't good pad contact on rotors and I mentioned the more heat built up between pads and rotors from normal driving the more noise and less stopping power.
Considering they said they put $2,000 in work into it. Also they replaced the oil cooler , 2 front tires, plus turning the rotors like something had happened to the car. They stopped responding.

Around late August/September I had still not received my title and temp registration had expired. I went to my county clerk and they said the title had recently been transferred to someone else but couldn't give that information. So they likely didn't have access to the title in june but let it be sold.

Late September After I escalated to Toyota Corporate twice the dealership rushed me a new registration, a $57 check.

October 6 2025 I received the title.

I haven't opened the title or cashed their check.

I believe there was a breach of contract, possibly deceptive , even retaliatory for the complaint.

Is this actually anything ?

Why didn’t you have your own trusted mechanic inspect the vehicle prior to purchase?

What does your purchase agreement say about the sale/trade in?
