I just recently began to make major renovations to my home. In meeting with various contractors, I signed a vary vague contract with an unlicensed contractor. Now that my home is in mid-stream of having these renovations done, the (unlicensed) contractor is asking me to sign additional paperwork (contract) to relieve him of any possible liability for exceeding the deadline date. (i advised the {unlicensed}contractor that these renovations are long over due and I would be looking into charging him for the delays and rental fees that I'm being faced with). The (unlicensed) contractor is also trying to charge me additional expenses that he says he has incurred. I advised that without receipts for these additional expenses I would not be paying him any additional funds.

The (unlicensed) contractor has advised he will give me three days to sign his forms. I don't want to sign these forms and I don't want to pay him any additional funds, but i want my house finished.

What can I do, to get my house finished, and not pay him more money.

Can I take him to court to get my house finished???

If i go out and get another contractor, I will have major expenses which by far out weigh, what I have already spent with this (unlicensed) contract.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who has encountered a situation like mine.

Thank you,

you have two options...

sign and pay, or pay someone else.
