Illinois

A person who lives in TX has stated numerous times through emails that he & possibly others are arriving in Illinois to kill me. Whether or not this is actually carried out, can I sue this individual for making this death threat? He has my wife & myself distressed over this. This happened over an internet transaction which turned sour. I have never met this individual or know this individual.

Thank you.

Report this to local law enforcement along with copies of the emails, it is also a violation of federal law and can be reported to the FBI who have jurisdiction to make threats over the internet, you should be able to get a restraining order and depending on the facts, there may be criminal charges filed. Contact an attorney regarding any civil suit, you may have a case however, it may cost more to fight it than any settlement or judgement you might receive but this will depend on the facts.
