Hello,
I went through a nasty divorce several years ago. I was a stay at home mom for 12 years (hubby paid the bills) and just got stuck with the ex's debt. We had a credit card taken out in 97 that I was the main signer on. Well, a few weeks ago I started receiving phone calls from a collection agency. Apparently my ex defaulted on this card last year (we were divorced in 2001). I had never thought I me being the signer on that card and wish to God I had remembered, but I never used the card. He had his name "removed" from the account and now I am stuck footing the bill.

At any rate the credit limit was 2,000 and MBNA charged it off at 3,000. Since the bills went to my ex I had no idea until now about the bill not being paid. The collection agency is attempting to collect over 4,500 from me. I have scraped every dime I have together and offered to settle at 2,800
I received a call from them this morning and they tell me that their "client" Credigy will not "settle" and would rather take me to court. I just don't know what to do now. I am remarried and staying home to take care of my baby. I don't have a job so they cannot garnish wages. I am worried they will go after my husband now. Can they freeze our joint accounts or garnish his wages? Totally frustrated and don't know my rights. ANY help is appreciated.
