What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Virginia
My girlfriend is being taken to court by glasser and glasser
she went to court over a credit card debt of around $2500. I'm not exactly sure what happened but the results were she was supposed to make payments of about $120 a month to them.
I think she said she missed like 2 payments, and now they have frozen her account and all of her funds. Luckily her mom helped her, but she would've had 0 money for her and her son the whole month (maybe longer?)
She tried to pay off the total debt with a credit card from her mother over the phone but they
refused any credit card. She also wanted to negotiate payments, but they won't even look at any offer of payment until they see some kind of papers saying how much money is frozen in her bank account,
meanwhile her account is frozen until any unknown date. She also just received a court summons today about a garnishment.
Can anyone tell me how to help her fight this, or at least get it to go away? She did offer to pay it all with credit card, but I guess they don't want that money, and also don't want to negotiate any type of payment.
Why do they even have a legal right to freeze her entire bank account? What is the point if they aren't going to take money from it? (I assume they don't have the ability to yet)
Glasser and Glasser seem to be pretty cutt throat from my research online and want to take care of this before they turn a small 2.5k debt into something stupid.
Do we have any options? I think this debt was from a capital one credit cart, Im guessing that this law firm bought the debt and are now going after her?
