Debt collector is suing me for a debt. They claim that I owe the original debt of $236.00, plus interest of $27.14, plus accumulated interest to date of judgement; together with estimated cost and disbursements in the sum of $143.00; and an attorney's fee in the sum of no less than $200.00, all for a total of at least $606.14.

I have proof that I made 4 payments of $50.00 each, with a balancing owing of $88.00 (the original debt was $238.00. If the court agrees that I only owe $88.00, will I still have to pay attorney fees?

Yes, unless the court orders otherwise.

That math doesn't add up. Regardless, if you feel that you owe $88.00, contact the creditor and attempt to pay them the $88.00 on the condition that they drop the lawsuit and mark the account "paid in full" (and that you receive written confirmation of such, of course).

If you don't have $88.00, then it really doesn't matter what you do; you're going to be sued, you're going to lose, and you're going to pay a lot of fees. While you might get the debt and interest amounts reduced based on your evidence, you'll still pay enough court and attorney costs to easily double your debt.
