What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New Jersey

I took a payday loan which was deposited into my checking as an ACH almost 2 years ago and was not able to pay it back. My bank account over drafted and was closed due to non activity. My mom started getting calls recently from this place who is trying to collect the debt owed threatening to sue and take me to court where I would have to pay over $3000. The loan was for I believe 300 plus interest. First he said I have to pay $858 then he said if I pay by this Friday I can take a deal of 585.00. Is this possible, that I will be served and sued? Or is it just a tactic to get the money. I even offered to pay it when I had the money but he was putting pressure on me to ask someone for it. Plus he said it is looked at as a malicious fraudulent act, because my bank account closed and I was not able to pay it back. They keep calling my mom and he keeps going on and on but this is the first I heard from them 2 days ago. I don't know what to do, but I do not have the money as of this second to pay for it. I also do not want to get in serious trouble over this, I'm not the type to ignore it and to be honest it's been so long I forgot about it till my mom told me they were leaving these minute long voicemails. Idk the laws on these types of things, my fiancé told me to stop answering and not to worry but I feel otherwise.
