I have been divorced for three years, while married my ex bought a truck and I co-signed for it. He let the truck run into a river and the insurance policy did not cover the entire cost of the truck. The "accident" happened in May of 1996. He decided he did not want to be married in June of 1996. I did not live with him after this time, and the truck situation was never mentioned to me. We divorced in 1998 and last weekend it I learned that there is a $3000 debt on my credit report. I called the company to explain the situation them and I was told that since I co-signed I was responsible. I was also informed that I have already been sued (without my knowledge) and that my ex was supposed to be paying $100 a month to the credit company. He is not making these payments, and as a full time college student I am not in a postion to pay for this either. Is there anything I can do about this situation?? I don't think I should have to pay for his "accident", and I use that word very loosely. He ran the truck into the river, shouldn't he be responsible?? Also, the woman I spoke to said that she is going to try to garnish his wages. She said that I cannot be sued again, but what is going to happen to now??
