This guy owes me money and he has sent several email messages saying he will bring the money over to me but he just keeps making excuses. Now its his car that is broken down. We did not sign an agreement or anything . Can I sue him with evidence of the email messages as promise of payment?

IAAL, welcome back!!!
We have missed you.

My response:

Gracias, me amigo !

I've been in an out of the office for the past couple of weeks, making appearances for one of my ill partners. So, I'll still be making sporadic appearances on the boards until he's better. Then, I can get back to the things that I really enjoy, like FreeAdvice.Com ! !

You know, I haven't done a full day's work in more than a few years - - really, I've been more of a figurehead in my own firm, and never realized it - - until I was needed to "pinch hit" for the last couple of weeks.

On the one hand, it feels good to get back into the fray, and argue a Motion or two, meet with opposing counsel, do a little "discovery," go to an arbitration, grill a defendant or two in depositions, dictate more than a couple of letters, etc., etc.; but, on the other hand, it makes me remember why I partnered up with these younger guys in the first place - - hell, I'll let them go through what I went through on a constant basis for so many years. It's my turn to relax. And, after having to "work" again, I'm feeling pooped ! What was the sign-off at the end of "Taxi" ? Oh yeah, I remember now - - -

Secretary (perky voice off camera): "Goodnight, Mr. Walters ! "

Mr. Walters (putting his hat on as he walks down the hallway, obviously tired): "Uh huh".

I feel like the lead partner from "L.A. Law" (what was his name?). Normally, I do a little rainmaking, but the firm is really quite self-supporting and sustained with repeat business - - making "rainmaking" less of a necessity than it was about 10 or so years ago.

Steve, I have to say, it's nice to hear from you too, and terrific to read a familiar voice.

IAAL,
hurry up and win that case so you can get back to matters at hand.

I'm feeling guilty that you have to work so much while I sit poolside and open my laptop when I feel like it.

Your pal,
