What is the name of your state?INDIANA-i dont need legal help but am new to this forum and just wondering about a few things.a few years ago someone i know was arrested on a "body attachment".is this different from a warrant?the deal was she owed a lawyer money, and he tried wage garnishment but she kept changing jobs.she sat a couple days in jail, then went before a judge and had to sign an agreement for wage garnishment again.i was the gals employer at the time and managed to get the dude about half his money before she quit that job too.when she quit i dont know if he reissued a "body ttachment" on her or not.I thought it was rather interesting because you just dont normally hear about someone being arrested for oweing money.thought "debtors prison" went out long ago.can just anybody do this-or do you have to be a lawyer?i got an empty judgment in small claims court against a deadbeat renter and id like to see the loser in jail!!

My response:

There is no such thing as "Debtor's Prison" in the United States. In the situation you cited, the woman didn't go to jail for the debt; she went to jail because she was in "contempt of court"; i.e., Failing to do as the judge instructed and ordered. In other words, judges don't like being spat in the face.

i understand she went to jail because she didnt make the payments as agreed.but is a body attachment the same thing as a warrant?is a body attachment issued by a judge?is it like a warrant in that the police will hunt you down to take you in?
