What is the name of your state?undefinedSC
A friend is a waitress at a chain restaurant in our area and if they work an 8-hour shift the company automatically deducts $3 or $4 from their check for “meals” (whether they eat or not). They will deduct for 2 meals if the EE works a longer shift (which my friend usually does). I know 3 or 4 dollars is not that much in itself but for 7 days it can add up pretty quickly on a wait staff pay. Many times the EE’s do not get a chance to have the meal that they have “paid” for (via payroll deduction) and they are not allowed to take the paid for meal home as a “carryout” at the end of their shift. I have checked the DOL website but can not locate any info on this. Is this legal?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I suggest your friend call SC's Department of Labor and ask about this. I'd be astonished of this weren't prohibited.
