What is the name of your state? Ohio
My husband and I have ' talked ' for years but have never done anything about having a will made. Is it a good idea to also have a survorship deed ? And what are the ' average ' costs for a lawyer in Preble County Ohio for these services ? ( just a ballpark estimate is ok )

Yes you need a will and also a living will and POA.

A Living Will allows you to convey your wishes regarding treatment when those wishes can no longer be personally communicated.
A Medical Power of Attorney allows you to designate someone to make health care decisions for you when you are unable.

The house may already be in a "survorship deed." The attorney will need to see exactly how it is worded. I doubt an Ohio attorney follows this board so you will need to ask around for pricing. My guess is 500 to 1000 dollars.
