Someone is making false accusations about me stating to others that I had an affair with her husband. She is also saying that he is having an affair with EVERYONE we work with. This is absolutely crazy. There has apparently been problems in the marriage for some time and now she has gone crazy reporting he is cheating with everyone he comes in contact with. This could potentially cause me to lose my job and marriage. Things she is saying is ABSOLUTELY not true, and she is reporting that she has email proof, which is NOT true. Do I have a defamation case or do I have to wait until she actually causes problems first? Should I try to reason with someone like this and talk with her?

She may honestly believe everybody is having an affair with her husband, and may honestly believe that what she has is proof of it. Heh, how unfortunate.

I s'pose you could try sending a legal-sounding cease and desist letter and see if that helps solve anything.

FYI: even if this is a defamation case, and you could prove damages, the court costs would be astronomical with very little reward. Can almost guaruntee it just wouldn't be worth it.
