What is the name of your state? Illinois

This question refers to someone I know, he is in his mid 40's, books concerts for a living, is very succesful at it, and was recently sued by a musician that didn't get paid enough (in their opinion). The young musician claimed the booking agent sexually molested him. He has proof he did not do it, however the lawsuit, which received a large amount of local media coverage, severely damaged his career. With his personal reputation damaged in such a way, it would become impossible for him to continue booking concerts for bands, especially younger bands. He had to give up booking shows and now works two dead end jobs to get by. Would he be able to sue for defamation of character or libel? What would be the advantages/disadvantages of doing so?
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Even if the law suit was made in an attempt to damage his reputation? It had no evidence to support it, and because of statements made from him and the media coverage received, his life is ruined. There's nothing he can do?
