in virginia what is the burden of proof for slander? A woman around town is saying I'm a drug addict ( I only smoke cigarettes and drink coffee or beer-no illegal narcotics) and now it's affecting my children and my ability to obtain employment. she doesn't even know me and no one who does believes her but how can i stop her? please help

i am no lawyer but, if i were in your shoes i would start keeping a log of whome she made these comments to,date ,time, place and what was said. you did not go into detail of how your kids were hearing these things but do the same with them. if you think some one would not hire you because of these rummers go back to the employer and ask point blank if this was the reason for not hireing you, what are they going to do not give you a job again?
if you have enough hard, truthfull, and reliable statments find an attorney and go to her a**
