What is the name of your state?FL
My granddaughter has never been in trouble, trying to raise her child which is now 8 yrs old. She has had Seizures due to Melanoma Cancer (she has had 5 surgeries with more to go). She is not supposed to get stressed out, etc. Recently she had a situation with a girl she has grown up with whom has always caused problems for others. If she doesn't like you or someone that is a friend of yours, she talks about that individual to others. She has been passing around that my granddaughter is a "crack whore" and is "strung out on crack." The thing is, this is a small town and word gets around quite quickly. People that really know my granddaughter would not believe it, but there are those out there that may believe it. She is divorced and her "ex" would love to get ahold of this type of rumor. What can we do to stop this girl from spreading this vicious gossip about her? My granddaughter can "prove" she has never done drugs, she has blood tests all the time because of her melanoma and would never subject her child to this type of life. My question would be" could this be considered "defamation of character?" This girl would lie about her own family, and I believe these rumors won't stop here, she is the type to continue spreading to others as time goes on.
Worried Grandma!
