defamation or harrassment or should I get a stalking order?

Over the last year I have had 100+ complaints made about my family to CPS by one individual. How I know this is I have had CPS call me and visit my home to let me know. They have also informed me of who this person is because they said I was still letting this person in my home. This person has not been in my home since December of 2006. Two weeks ago I was told by one of my friends that this person approached her and told her I was an unfit parent and that she is still turning me in. She had this so called friend who stated "I didn't really call and report you". Which it turns out this lady that approached my friend, and also our old apartment manager was also present. Happens to be someone that I have not talked to for 1 1/2 years, they have not been to my home nor do I have any association with them anymore. They keep spreading rumors and basically dragging my family through the mud. My child went to spend the night at a friends house and told her what my former friend had told me and she called her mother, her mother admitted to making the phone calls to CPS and even the current ones even though she has no idea what is going on in my home or with my children. She has not been in my home for almost two years, and I have not spoken to her for 1 1/2 years. Oh, I take that back the last time I spoke with her was in January when I told her to never call my house again, and to never step foot on the property where I live or I will have her trespassed off of the property. I did change my phone numbers. Is there anything that I can do to stop this lady?

If CPS has not found anything in their home visits to show this woman's complaints are valid, and she has continued to slander you to others by calling you an unfit parent without basis, then you could potentially sue her for defamation, and also invasion of privacy.

Lawsuits are expensive to bring and time-consuming, and the damages awarded if you win such a suit often are not enough to cover the amounts spent in suing - plus there is never a guarantee you would win such a suit.

Is there any reason she would be reporting you to CPS or telling people you are an unfit mother? What does CPS say about it? Did you live in the same apartment building at one time, and could she have witnessed anything that might have led her to believe you were an unfit parent? In other words, do you have any idea why she is doing this??

From what I have been told is that she is extremely jealous of my family, and no she has not seen anything with my children as I have caregivers in my home 24/7. We did live in the same apartment complex, I moved out a year before she did as it was a low-income complex and I wanted a better living environment for my children as I complete my education to enable me to get a better paying job to support my family. I have absolutely no idea why she is doing this, and what her purpose is. She just constantly is spreading rumors and gossiping about everyone that she has come into contact with. I just think she has too much time on her hands and to combat her boredom she gossips about other people.
