Defamation - Slander

Washington. Our neighbor has been telling people, including other neighbors that my husband has vandalized their car while it was parked where they work and they have witnesses that saw him do it and that he has also backed into their car and dented it. This is completely untrue and we can prove beyond any doubt that my husband could never have been where they work during that time frame. They also call the police every time my 15 yr old son is riding his 4-wheeler and lie that he is "stalking" them etc. I know these are two different issues, but it seems they crossed the line when they started telling people that my husband committed a crime and they have witnesses that recognized him. What should we do? My husband's reputation is being compromised during a time that the aerospace company is laying off 30,000 people. We can prove with company time clock records where my husband is during any time their car would be at work. Thank you for any help in this matter.

Since you really have no way to prove any of these statements have caused you damages, you have little or no chance of a court issue. And, trying to litigate any claim like this is very expensive, with little or no chance of success.

I suggest you have an attorney write a 'cease and desist' letter to them.

in illinois anyway, if they are accusing you, they should call the police. if they did, obtain records or reports. if they are speaking to other neighbors, it will be difficult to prove, because it can be considered heresay.
