Texas,
My exwife has threaten to say things to important people that I work for. Its private things but they are true. Being private I dont want anyone to know about them if she tells them it could hurt me pretty bad. The things are just bedroom stuff but they are not bad but they are true. What can I do to stop her and what law is being broken?

If what she says is true, nothing and none. You may have heard of the concept of Free Speech? And no law prohibits her from telling the truth.

My answer remains the same. She is free to discuss anything she likes with anyone she likes as long as what she says is true.

cw36zone...you have a right to privacy. Anyone that disseminates truthful private information which a reasonable person would find objectionable, is liable for an invasion of privacy claim.

Send your wife a certified letter that details her threats and informs her of your intent to sue her if she follows through on the threats. Make sure you get a return receipt card.

Quaere, can you please provide me a link or something so I can read up on this? I've never heard anything before that supports your claim.

There is nothing you can do!! Maybe you shouldn't have done these things that are threatened to be revealed! In defamation claims, the best defense is the truth! If you don't your wife to know, meaning you are consealing this from her. If she eventually finds out, it will certainly hurt possibly destroy your marriage. You need to get some help. As long as this is unresolved, the possibility will always exist of your wife finding out the truth!
According to Texas law, as many other states. There is no Law being broken here!

wasn't sure if I should post... but

Yeah, Just be truthful, the dog does not need the pink tutu before he gets his treat. The lady you are seeing needs a real life anyway??? And well doing your toenails? It is going around.

Life is too short to try to make you miserable without someone else doing it. Did you embezzle, is it really so horrid.

Trust me you can live through it YOU Can.

Communicate with her, she is hurting, you did something hurtful she is doing something back nothing is turnbackable..

No.. Listen!! pretty please with a caveman on top! :(

I still contend that the wife is entitled to speak the truth. I read the wikipedia article you mention and don't see anything that supports your claim.

cbg is correct! A person can not be sued or face legal action for thr truth. The best defence in a libel case is the "TRUTH"!! Ask any Lawyer! Invasion of Privacy is an entirely different issue and doesn't apply here. Invasion of privacy are things like "Illegal Wire tapping"! Listening in on Phone calls thru illegal means. Making inappropriate inquiries into someones "Financials"!! It would be best for you to come clean with your new wife and tell her the truth! baggage in a marriage can destroy it sometimes.

The First Amendment does not protect a person that reveals highly personal facts about another person.

Invasion of Privacy is a very common claim.

Invasion of Privacy – Public Disclosure of Private Facts is a recognized tort in every state.
The tort elements include (1) publicity of (2) private facts (3) highly offensive to a reasonable person which are (4) not of a legitimate public interest. [See Restatement § 652D.]
