My boyfriend is going through a constant custody battle with his ex-wife and now she is dragging me into the battle. He received some papers from her attorney, apparently she is trying to take him to court again to get full custody of their child. In these papers that he received it states that my boyfriend had stated to their child that he and I smoke marijuana together. This really angered me because first of all I have a security clearance with my job and I was afraid that someone making a statement like this could affect my clearance which would ultimately affect my job. Second of all it is a complete lie. Is there anything I can do regarding this? thanks

My response:

No. Anything said in court papers or in court is completed protected from liability. That's why we have courts, so that people can allege anything they want, without fear of reprisal.

The issue of your drug use is a matter for the court to decide. It's a common ploy by a desperate parent, and courts hear this kind of crap, and worse, all the time. Unless she can prove her allegations, the allegations are just words on a piece of paper.

All you can do is defend against the allegations as best you can.
