Default Decree?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arizona

I was shown my Ex's copy of a Default Decree (I don't have a copy in my possession). Ex says it is the paperwork that proves we are in fact divorced. I really hope it is, but since I can't get a person on the phone at the court, I can't verify it.

Please let me know if I am divorced.

Thank you,
Kathy

No one here can tell you that without seeing the paperwork.

Go to the courthouse and ask for a copy of the decree.

Did the copy have a judge's signature on it? In any case, the previous advice was correct. You need a copy of the decree. So head on down to the courthouse and get one.

Or just hold it up to your monitor... there you go.. okay move it a little to the left... naw... too much... back to the right... okay now move it up....
Right... wait a minute... Oh dang, you spilled your coffee on it. That doesn't help. You are going to have to get a copy from the court house.

I have no car to get down to the courthouse, and the advice to go get the decree to look at it was sound, but dang, if I HAD a copy, and could talk to a clerk at the courthouse, I would have my answer. Not sure a Default Decree meant anything. My other divorces were concluded with a Certificate of Dissolution. I only had a partial page texted (yes, texted!) to me by the stbx, who was taunting me with it. My address had changed from AZ to TX with the Court and so my sister may be receiving the doc instead of me. :(.

Well, I found a way down to courthouse yesterday, picked up a copy and asked the clerk, and she said, yes, you are divorced. And it only cost me a taxi fare (both ways) and two bucks for copy fee.

So, yeah, I am divorced, which is what I was hoping, so the stbx is a legal ex, the way I want him.

Have a great weekend :)
Signing off,
Kathy

I hope you'll consider being a bit more discerning in the future. Especially before you start spewing spawn.

Wow, that's uncalled for. I have 2 boys, and my tubes were tied 9 years ago. If you are gonna judge me for having been thru more than one divorce, then I get to judge you. I only asked if I was divorced, not asking for moral advice, and don't need it.

I'm outta here.

Lovely - so you put your kids through all of these multiple "romances"? I think you are mistaken - you DO need moral advice. And parenting advice. Just advice all around.

Actually she needs legal advice, too.

It's a little bothersome that she didn't know if she was divorced and had to ask if she was divorced or not.

If my ex showed me a piece of paper stating that we were divorced I would verify it from an outside source too...particularly since I should have received a copy of that same piece of paper.
