Yesterday a businessman - in a business similar to my own - accused me of being "a crook". He cited an incident with one of his clients. He further said that he would tell everybody in the business that I was a "crook." The partiuclar client was formerly my client and I rerpresented him in the organisation and sale of portions of an estate.
The client has never made any such accusation or pressed any charges.
If he proceeds, or if he has already told others in the same business community that I am a "crook" what means do I have to protect myself against what I experience as defamation and harmful to my business relatonships?
Thank you
