The answer is, as long as they want. The only option when there is no response within a reasonable time frame is to file suit or proceed to trial if it's already filed. I'd guess at LEAST 30 days is reasonable.
If you aren't prepared to file a lawsuit, and to do it prior to statute of limitations, what would be the incentive for a company to respond. By stalling, time is in their favor.
Thanks for the responses. In Michigan you have to notify the party 120 days before you plan to sue. The statute of limitaions will be up in sept. I do have a lawyer but he has been unavailable and I want to make sure I know what is going on. The party responded to the demand letter they have not responded to the offer letter. Maybe they have and I haven't been told. I was under the impression if we didn't have a case they would not have ask for me to submit a figure or even responded to the letter.
