Denial of Drivers License from 1991 paid ticket

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Utah

I went to renew my expired drivers license & was told that there was a hold on my license from a ticket in 1991. The ticket was paid and I do not keep receipts for longer than 7 years.

I would also like to point out the same issue raised in 1991 while trying to get a Utah license. Thus the issue was resolved and a Utah Drivers License was granted. Can they seriously come back for a second payment of ticket issued? 24 years later? BTW, I was 24 at the time of the traffic ticket.

Any advice is welcome.

My first stop would be the courthouse in the county where the original ticket was written, for a copy of the case file.

Let the lesson here be that in any court case brought by a government agency that can affect your rights or freedom, it's not a "receipt", it's evidence. Such evidence should be kept for the remainder of your natural life.

Thank you!

I had communicated with the courthouse in Maryland that remembers the old Judge. As he was a favorite. She advised me to write a letter to the courts in Maryland because it would be a huge commute to Maryland from Utah.

Thank you for your reply. I'll never dispose of a payment made to any court.
