I am in Ohio and am an assistant retail mgr for a national mall store chain. I applied for a manager's job last year. I had 4 years mgmt experience. I was a manager for another company prior and took this asst mgr job because of higher pay. The job was given to a girl under me with only 6 months experience as a 2nd assistant ( a friend of my manager). The requirements posted for this job said 2-4 yrs experience required. I complained and was told she had better people skills. But, they asked me if I would take a job at another store 65 miles away and I said no. It was almost like they wanted to shut me up. About 2 months ago they were having trouble again filling a job at the store 65 miles away and my district manager asked me if I would move and take the job. (this is not an option)I told her no.
My manager is transferring to another state. I applied for her job - turned down again. I don't know who got it yet. They said it was based on 3 bad mystery shopper reports which were real fishy. One was from Feb 29th this year ( no such day). When I questioned it they changed it to the 19th. Anyway I got the turn down call and I proceeded to question them - why? My HR rep kept putting me on hold and taking other calls. The last time however, somehow I could hear every word she said. She was talking to my District Manager. She mocked me, made fun of me, and said I made her want to pull her f***ing hair out. Then they discussed some Beatle songs before getting back to me. Of course by this time I was upset and crying from hearing my superiors talk about me. When she came back on I told I had heard everything and she didn't believe me. Then I said I wondered if she would be bald the next time I saw her. She was embarassed at first then said she was glad I had heard this. She said it would knock down some walls. Where does that happen???
I emailed her boss about what had happened - told her I was nervous about telling my story. She assured me the company has an open door policy and there would be no problem and she would look into it. That was last Thursday. Today (5-7-01) I was written up for bad shopping reports (mind you the last one was from February it is now May). I feel set up. I have no one to go to - I need help!!
Also, my first year I got a $1.05 per hour raise. Last year I got $1.30 per hour raise. This seems awfully good for someone who is so bad at their job. Is there anything for me to do before they fire me or push me until I can't take it anymore and quit?
