What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? CA

I had dental work done a year and a half ago. The Dentist was to bill the insurance company. They billed them, but billed for work that was previously done. The insurance company denied it. I had paid all my co-payments and the balance is $400 which should have been payed by the insurance Carrier. The dentist excuse was that we were not covered for this time period that the work was preformed. I received the exact same denial letter they did and gave them copies saying that the work was paid for previously and they need to put the correct information. That was the last I heard from them. I Collection agency called me last week and wanted me to pay for it. I told them that this should of been billed by the dentist to the insurance. They told me they don't deal with insurance companies and I need to pay. What should I do to get this taken care of? :(

My response:

The collection agency is correct. Your insurance coverage, and any problems with your insurance company, is ultimately your responsibility. If there's a problem with coverage, then you need to contact your insurance company and have them work out the problem with the dentist. If the problem is not on the dentist's part, then you're on the hook to pay your bill.

By the way, how do you like my pearly whites? :D
