Utah, hey i have some dental debt 1500 dollars they recently sent me a letter saying they are going to send my wife to cillections i only have an itin they are trying to make her responsible for my debt and destroying her credit. I dont believe it is legal for them to do that since she never signed anything that said she was financially responsible. We called and asked what was going on and they said they on their own had made her financially responsible because she had used insurance with them(insurance that she no longer has), can they do that without either of our consents?

They obviously CAN do whatever they want.

If it appears on her credit report she can dispute it.

If they violate the Fair Credit Reporting Act (google it) she can sue them.

A bit of advice: Being married is like being in a boat. One of you pokes a hole in it, you both drown.

If you don't want her to be inconvenienced by your default, pay the bill.
