My family was given dental benefits beginning 7/1/09 from my father's company. Though what had happened is we had visited the dentist in August, and later were told that the insurance claim was denied and that coverage ended on 7/31/09.
We contacted the insurance company and were told that the employer cancelled the dental portion of the policy. When we contacted HR, they had said that the benefit was taken away as it was to be provided by the Union.
We later were given the information for the Union and were told that coverage was not to begin until 9/01/09, leaving a lapse for the month that we had visit the dentist.
Well the company had not given any notice that they were revoking the dental portion of the insurance, and now I am stuck with a dental bill of $1179, that is now being threatened to be sent to collection.
On top of this, the dentist only accepts the original policy for the discounted insurance customary rates. Which makes the union's insurance policy an issue.
Both the Union and the Employer cannot seem to work out who will be responsible for the bill. Is there any action I can take to make sure the bill gets paid?
