Connecticut, put a deposit down on a car. Dealer agreed to hold car 3 weeks (awaiting tax refund). During this time I have been recovering from surgury and was planning to return to work soon. Doc. gave me bad news. I may need another surgury. Notified dealer following day. Said he had to think about return of my deposit. Never had this happen before for lessor reasons. Always received my deposits in full. Have Ct. laws changed? I see myself in small claims court...do you?

My response:

Is there a written contract, and if so, does it say anything about "deposits" ?

Remember, despite your physical maladies, you're an adult who entered into a contract. Looking at the other side of the coin, the dealer has lost out on a sale because he's been waiting for you to make good on your end of the bargain. Therefore, the dealer has lost time, profits and advertising costs, among other things. Is it fair to a retailer that you should hold up his goods from sale to someone else without you bearing those losses and expenses?

Hi,"I am always Liable", there was no contract..there was only a receipt of my deposit which does not state "non-refundable" or "all sales final" or anything similar to those statements. I do understand his loss of turn around time... I can't help my medical situation. Can you suggest a reasonable compromise? I understand bussiness is bussiness, but I'm looking at my third surgury in a year.Don't people with hardships have rights to be considered? How much of an $800 deposit ,(with out a contract), do you beleive a dealer is entitled to?
P.S. I do appreciate your response and look forward to your further enlightening of my situation.
