I moved out of a place i rented for 19 years. The landlord has denied me getting back any of my original deposit of $800.00, stating cleanup and other costs for getting the home ready for re-renting. Any recourse for me?

Do you have pictures documenting your old places final exit conditions inc anything that needed to be repaired when you moved out ? as well as pics of how clean you left the place . At this point it is up to you to be able to prove to a court that your LL held back your deposit unfairly .

I promise you that a small claims judge will look the LL squarely in the eye on any claims even remotely asserted to normal wear and tear in this instance.

If you have exit photos showing good faith clean-up, and dear goodness if you should have photos of your entry 19 years ago. Your ex LL is gonna have his hands full explaining to the court what the LL is doing in his courtroom.

Did the Landlord Itemize the Cost ?

All you have to do is broom clean , and make sure any other things like fridge , stove , Bathroom toilet , any sinks . Etc. are reasonably clean.

If he claims carpet LOL It's time for new ones , as with any other flooring .

If there is holes in the walls things like that , then the LL has a right to claim that , if you done it .

I would think the burden of proof would be on the landlord .

I have cleaned some Apts , that were litterly disgusting though .
