Last year I contacted a DJ to play at my daughters wedding in June of this year. Since I was under a time frame and was trying to do this long distance, I sent a retainer check to hold this date. After about a month or so, I found out that friends of mine were DJ"s and offered to do the wedding for little or no money! I immediately called and canceled the other DJ"s services and he told me that if he booked the date, he would return my depoisit of $300. We are now at the end of April and I have another daughter getting married this October and that money would sure come in handy! What are my legal options of getting my deposit returned to me. I should mention that there was no contract signed! Please aDVISE. I live in the Pennsylvania and so does the DJ in question! I might add, I have called him numerous times and each time this DJ has been very arrogant with me.

Based on my experience, no contract means the DJ has no legal right to the deposit. You'll be burning a bridge but if you really want that money back sooner than later(if at all), a professional-sounding letter from a lawyer should do the job and get your deposit back. Got any lawyer friends?
