On Jan. 20th 2001 my husband of 1 year and 4 months says he's unhappy and wants a divorce. He told me to move out, I did. I begged him to go to counseling with me, he refused. He's in the Marine Corps. here in San Diego, California. We lived in base housing(rent free) so luckly we did not have a house together, no kids either. The three major areas that I'm financially burdened due to this divorce is we purchased a car based on both of our income and I'm keeping it. Another is, I will be missing out on all of the benefits that come with being a military dependant, and lastly now I have to look for a place to live and pay rent. I work but I do not get paid enough to live the life that I lived when we were married. Do I have any rights to get spousal support?

You're still a military dependent. Until that decree is signed, dealed and delivered, you should be reaping all those bennies..... Have it written in the decree where he will cover you for a certain amount of time on health insurance, etc. Call the military personnel office and ask about (what used be called COBRA benefits. You can take medical coverage at a reduced rate on yourself as the dependent of a military. Go after his retirement account -- not all of it, but some.
