What is the name of your state? WI
After being cancelled by my insurance company due to my roof being too old, I had been seeking out new insurance from other providers without any success. So I turned to a state insurance program that is meant for people who can't get insurance through a regular provider. It is administered through an agent. I had been inquiring with a big-name agency about the details of this program, and was getting different answers. First, I was told that it included extended coverage and cost $976 per year. When I consulted with my own agent, she said it would be $1355 if I was eligible, but that i am not eligible. So I went into the office of the first agent to have a discussion and ended up talking to a different person than before. This person said that the cost would be $238, and that it does not include extended coverage. I decided to go with this program.
When I asked for a print out for this policy, he said he couldn't give me one because the website wouldn't let him (or for some reason like that). He was able to give me printouts of what other policies administered by his own company could provide, but not for this particular policy. When it came to making the payment, I was going to give him a check but he said that the policy wouldn't take effect until the check cleared the banks. Since that meant my insurance would lapse, I asked if he would take cash. He said he couldn't because the money needs to go to the state program rather than his agency. So then I had to give him my credit card which he entered the information from into his computer. In my email, I got a payment receipt from what I assume is the payment administrator, but nothing from the state insurance program. Also, I don't have any paperwork or emails that outline the policy. So I'm not even sure what it is I am paying for. I have a feeling I just been scammed. Is there anything I can do about this?
I realize we live in the digital age where not everything is on paper. But I don't even have anything digital showing what I have paid for. It just seems a little fishy, which is surprising because this is a big name insurance company I was dealing with.
