What is the name of your state? California

Good day legal beagles!
I have a quick question: did I beat ford motor credit? I have not reopened the SOL on my auto loan, I have not paid them since september of 2000 (over 4 years ago, this month). The SOL in Cali is 4 years for a signed contract (past due).

I still have the car obviously, I've moved around a lot, even been homeless and living in the very car they were probably looking for. SO I know it was difficult at best for them to track me down.

What I'd like to know is this: What do I do with car? Is it mine by default? Can I sell it? Can I never get rid of it? I am able to register it every year, and keep it insured, so can I just assume I got a new car for the price of the down payment only?

Bear in mind this was not my plan from the begining, I never intended to 'steal' the car, bad times in a bad economy forced me to decide between food or paying ford motor credit ;)

thanks for your help and understanding!

Nope. Unless you have a full, negotiable title without any liens, it is NOT yours.

Not without a fully released negotiable title.

Can I never get rid of it?
Depends.

Nope.

Oh, and how do you know that the creditor hasn't gotten a judgment against you..... which is good for 10 years and RENEWABLE in California??

Good question, where would I find out that answer?

Of course the best way is to ask the lender... "Hey, I am a deadbeat who thinks he scammed you guys out of repayment. Did you get a judgment against me?"

Or you can contact the county clerk and/or courts and ask.

Or in some cases, it might be shown in your credit report.
