What is the name of your state? South Carolina

I purchased 4 pairs of shorts for my daughter on Saturday. After getting home I realized I got the wrong size and went back to the store. I had misplaced my receipt but was just making an even exchange for a different size. I left the bag at the counter & went & got the right size and got back in line and filled out the exchange form with name & address. I was in a rush and had the items off the hangers ready to go when my turn came. When I did not have the receipt I was told I had to have my driver's licensce which I did not have. Being the sales clerk had an attitude I asked for the manager who said the same thing so I picked up the 4 pairs of shorts & put them in the bag and said I was leaving. The manager came out into the parkinglot and asked which set of shorts I had in my bag and I told her to figure it out and left. I am not normally rude like that but had had enough. Well, when I told my husband he became concerned and said I needed to go back & make it right. So I went back with my licensce but they informed me it was too late & that they already filed a police report. I asked for what breaking your store policy ? and they said No for SHOPLIFTING. It didn't matter I paid for 4 pairs of shorts & left with that?

Take Care,
Lisa

It is not unreasonable of the store clerk or manager to make these requests. They don't know where you purchased these items or when or how much you paid for them, because you didn't have the receipt. I imagine they see hundreds of customers shopping in their store daily, so they can't be expected to remember you and what you purchased. Look at this situation from there perspective:
Here is this woman they don't know who comes marching into their store like she's on a mission. Before she even explains her situation and receives any input from them on the store policy on exchanges, she has already determined that she will simply trade them and be done with it. She has no receipt, no drivers license to identify herself with and she's in a big hurry to get this done. Then when they ask for the receipt, the same thing every store in the country would ask, she doesn't have it. So they try to work with her and ask her for her license. Again, doesn't have it. By now all she does have is an attitude,,, and why? Because she didn't know what size clothes her children are wearing these days.

so I picked up the 4 pairs of shorts & put them in the bag and said I was leaving. The manager came out into the parkinglot and asked which set of shorts I had in my bag and I told her to figure it out and left. I am not normally rude like that but had had enough.
You had enough? What about the store clerk and manager who could not reason with your stubborn, my way or the highway attitude?
Well, when I told my husband he became concerned and said I needed to go back & make it right.
Sounds like your husband has a better idea of what makes the world go round than his wife does.
So I went back with my licensce but they informed me it was too late & that they already filed a police report. I asked for what breaking your store policy ? and they said No for SHOPLIFTING. It didn't matter I paid for 4 pairs of shorts & left with that?
What you left with was four pair of shorts that you didn't pay for, as the ones you claim to have purchased, were left on their counter!

It sounds like you already had an attitude when you went to the store to trade these clothes for the right size. Maybe you were pissed because you found out you had the wrong size, maybe it's because you couldn't find the receipt, who knows. But you went to the store expecting trouble because you didn't have the receipt and you knew they would ask for it. This is why you decided to move a little quicker to wrap up the exchange than is normal, by taking it upon yourself to grab the items you should have purchased the first time around and then trying to pull the old "I got what I need, the others are on the counter" trick.
But it doesn't work that way and you know this.
BTW, I'm assuming you actually did purchase these items at the same store that you made the unorthadox exchange at, but your story sounds fishy enough for this to not be the case. I mean come on, who doesn't hold on to the receipt when your buying clothes for someone else? Maybe they don't fit right or maybe they don't like the style, so clothes, especially when purchased for someone besides yourself, are one of the things, everyone would hold on to the receipt for.

So, if I were you, I'd start looking high and low for that receipt you claim to have lost between getting home, realizing your clothing size mistake and returning to the store,,,,,

You are guilty of shoplifting and will face not only criminal but civil fines.

Next time check your attitude with the shorts.

You were also driving without a license.
I don't see where the OP mentions driving, so she could have gotten a ride or taken the bus. However, she does state she went back with her license, so I would assume she does have one.

If she drove without it, she would be guilty of driving without a license in her possession.

1. When she went to the store to return the items she did not have her license.

2. Duh.
Again, since my post wasn't simple enough for you to comprehend, where exactly, does the OP state that she drove a vehicle to the store?

When your done looking, you'll notice she didn't. You're only assuming she drove.

Duh yuh get it now?

Since she been to the store 3 times in one day one would assume she was driving. I did...hence the yes to the break the law part. I guess it is possible she wasn't driving but is it probable? The clerk did follow her into the parking lot. OP if you are reading this, please post back! We don't care if you shoplifted or not, just tell us if you drove there or not???

Glad I entertained ya'll

No, I did not drive there, my daughter did. She is who the shorts were for and who had picked out the wrong size to begin with and who also had lost the receipt. The items had the store tags on them so they knew they came from there as well.

I knew better to post here as well because the replies I have read on the other posts always sit & ridicule the person rather then be helpful and guide a person on what to do. Oblivious the point of this forum is for ya'lls entertainment.

I did not have an attitude at all walking in because I have shopped here alot and never had a problem. My daughter gets most of her clothes here and I know I have exchanged before with no problem. The lost receipt was irresponsible but honestly I am very bad about those things and realize I need to work on that, But thanks for no help anyway!

Believe me, your posts are simple enough-- I was just pulling your chain there, out. Sorry that you don't understand the nuances of sarcasm.

Yeah, you definitely drove there. It doesn't make any sense that your daughter was with you and you did not mention her in your original post. You had a conversation with your husband about what happened when you got home but not your daughter who was with you in the car on the way home. You don't post your daughters reaction to this "unjust accusation of shoplifting". Your story just doesn't make sense, and when a story doesn't make sense it usually is because it isn't true. My advice to you would be to stay out of that store, whether you stole anything or not, because they think you did steal from them.

Your daughters name doesn't happen to be "I" does it?

Hey, it's your story, I say you have the right to tell it any way you want. Fiction, non-fiction, it can all be good reading,,,,,Here's a refined version:

Once upon a time, there lived a girl who went shopping to buy shorts. She wasn't like all the other girls her age. In fact, she would often buy three pairs of shorts, without first trying on forty or fifty and standing in front of a mirror! She didn't care if her butt looked too big in them or not.;)

With the OPs attitude I wouldn_t put it past her to have stolen the first 4 shorts. Once she got home and found out they were the wrong size she hoped in her car and drove back. Op probity figured she could either try to get money back or exchange them for something that fits.

I could be wrong but my story probity makes more since.

Here is some advice:
1) Use a Credit card or Debit card to purchase items. Not only can most stores pull up your entire shopping record using a CC # but so can you online.
2) Don't drive without your license. DUGH!
3) Don't be an ass. I have heard that most people dislike being yelled at, you can catch more flies with honey then vinegar.
4) Don't tell members on forums.freeadvice.com that they are a bunch of jerks who don_t understand you. You came to us for help if you don_t like it file for a full refund and move on. Just because you_re wrong doesn't give you the right to attack us.
5) Don't reply. If you don't like the responses you have received what_s the point of replying? We don't change out minds because new members get their feathers ruffled.

and the most important advice:
6) The world does not revolve around you. So don't act like it.

Like Feeding the Frenzy

She did not need to try the shorts on because she had 2 pairs already at home and just simply wanted 4 more pairs of the same type for a mission trip which leaves this Friday.
We live 40 minutes out of the city so yes, I hated having to go back. She just got her unrestricted driver's licensce so she is was in the I want to drive stage & did. I had been on a casino cruise the night before and hadn't gotten my licensce back from my husband. I was unaware he had put it in the glove box is why I was able to produce it after I called him.

The forum suggests advice not ridicule is my point and if it's free I'll post what jerks you are & will reply as long as I can log in. It's a shame that guilt is automatically assumed here because it could be a useful forum.
