Ok- I don't know what to do here. I was the power of attorney for my mother. She for the most of her life was on welfare or assistance of some sort. The county made us sell her home when she went into a nursing home...so she had a very small asset....thus making her liable for self pay until the asset ran out. She died in October. I paid all the bills. I called places that I thought could have money due in early December because I wanted to close her checking. The nursing home told me she owed for October...which they gave me an amount....I went into pay it and they gave me two more bills totaling over 5,000. I told them that prior to she was on Medical assistance....they only had a portion showing that was Medicare Co-insurance....I told them that she did not have the money and the bills were from July and August. They had already billed me prior bills for September and October...and never a thing for these months....needless to say...they are hiring a lawyer and since I was the power of attorney....they are holding me responsible.....I live in Minnesota.....any ideas for me?
