My Multimedia class is doing a project on copyright laws. My groups specific focus is on Digital Video Copyrights. the following is out scenerio that we came up with.

A man breaks in to MGM studios and steals a soon to be released DVD. The man then sells the stolen DVD to another man, who then procedes to make copies of the video and sell them illegally to people. Our question is whether the man that stole the DVD is guilty for being involved with the copying of the DVD's or if he should just be prossecuted for stealing the video.

Any information about the laws that you could give us along with any comments or suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

This is a forum in which lawyers and others try to help people who have REAL legal questions or problems on REAL matters and are looking for answers or solutions. It is NOT FOR HOMEWORK. Shame on you.

Hey Buddy, Mr. "ALawyer", we need to feed our children's desire to learn. If we just push them away and do not supply them with information, they will grow up and still be clueless about the world. As a lawyer in a practice, i am always being asked questions by children. I ALWAYS answer them to the best of my ability, so that the child will be a more educated person.
For example: The Digital Millennium Copyright Act in 1998 addressed the issue of copyright protections in a digital environment. Try looking this up kids.
Another thing, did you even READ your own signature, ALawyer?? In your reply, you said:

"This is a forum in which lawyers and others try to help people who have REAL legal questions or problems on REAL matters and are looking for answers or solutions. It is NOT FOR HOMEWORK."

Well, Mr. Know-It-All, in your signature, you state:

"This is intended as general information only, NOT legal advice."

THAT is a contrdiction if i ever heard one!!!!

Try becoming a REAL lawyer before you criticize kids for trying to learn!

Mr. ABetterLawyer;
I now assume that you are going to become a regular contributor to this forum. If not, your reponse is totally uncalled for and you can climb back under the rock you just slithered out of. We are here giving real responses to real problems. I am not going to spend a second doing the homework of a high school student. He can spend the time that I would searching for the answer to his question. If he had come here looking for resources to answer his question, he may have received a plenty of help. BTW, why didn't you answer the question?
