What is the name of your state? NEW YORK, I HAVE BEEN LIVING IN THIS APARTMENT HOUSE FOR 37 YEARS. WHEN I FIRST MOVED IN JUST ABOUT EVERYONE WHO HAD A TV SET HAD AN ANTENNA ON THE ROOF.AFTER QUITE A FEW YEARS I UPGRADED MY ANTENNA AND IN THE YEAR 2003 WE HAD A THUNDER STORM IN AUGUST AND I CAME HOME FROM WORK WITH NO LIGHTS. I CALLED CON-ED IT WASN'T THEIR FAULT. I CALLED MY SUPER AND WE WENT DOWN TO THE BASEMENT AND HE PUT THE SWITCH BACK ON. WHEN I WENT BACK TO MY APT. THE LIGHTS WERE ON BOTH TV SETS DIDN'T WORK ONE HAD TO BE THROWN OUT, THE OTHER I HAD FIXED THE LIGHTNING DESTROYED MY ANTENNA SO I DECIDED TO GET DIRECT TV THE VERY SMALL DISH.THEY HAD A SPECIAL AND IT IS STILL LESS EXPENSIVE THAN CABLE. WHICH THEY HAVE IN MY BUILDING. I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS SUPPOSED TO ASK PERMISSION. NOW THERE ARE NO ANTENNAS ON THE ROOF EXCEPT MY DISH. THE BUILDING WENT COOP ABOUT 10 OR MORE YEARS AGO. MY LANDLORD STILL OWNS 3 APTS. IN THE BUILDING, MINE IS ONE OF THEM. HE HASN'T SAID ANYTHING TO ME ABOUT IT BUT THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY WANTS THE SUPER TO TAKE IT DOWN. I HAVE TWO RABBIT EARS ON MY TV SETS AND I DON'T GET ALL OF MY REGULAR STATIONS AND THEY DON'T PLAY CORRECTLY. DO I HAVE ANY RIGHTS? PLUS THEY WANT THE SUPER TO JUST TAKE IT DOWN , HE WOULDN'T DO THAT HE SAID THE TENANT HAS A RIGHT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS THEY ARE PROBABLY PAID UP TO A CERTAIN DATE. I THANKED HIM , BUT WHO ARE THEY TO SAY NO DISH TO ME IT IS BETTER AND CABLE IS MORE EXPENSIVE AS I HAVE SAID AND THEN I'LL HAVE NOTHING AND WON'T BE ABLE TO WATCH TV. IT DOESN'T SOUND RIGHT TO ME. THANK YOU FOR READING THIS. IT IS A SIX STORY BUILDING AND WHERE THE DISH IS INSTALLED YOU CAN SEE IT A LITTLE FROM THE SIDE STREET AS YOU PASS BY AND IF YOU LOOK UP.THANK YOU BARBARA A. DELUCA

Barb use of all capped letters in a internet forum is considered yelling / shouting. The only suitable advice is to search using the words > satelite tv, direct tv, etc , the subject has been covered in the past and that includes if i recall correctly from one posting quotes from the FCC , its been while and thats a older one. OR to improve odds of more answers redo this post with the caps lock not locked.

I'll save you the trouble. You have absolutely no right to put your dish anywhere on the building, much less the roof. The fact that your super is being nice and stalling the sponsor is more than you are entitled to. In fact, the Board can remove your dish and then charge you for their labor to do it, so you might want to get off your high horse on this one, because you are 100% in the wrong.

I can't find it for the life of me right now , but I believe all you're entitled to is cable TV installation .

Check out their values .

I assume you committed to a direct TV plan without doing your homework .

Echo, echo, echo... :D

Installation on balconies is not entirely without restrictions, though.
I have run into the situation a few times, usually the LL has the upper hand on this one since the balcony is still a part of the overall structure which falls under the general rule of no mounting equipment on the structure UNLESS given permission to do so. Most apt. complexes here in the Phoenix and surrounding areas will NOT allow you to mount ANYTHING on the balconies, UNLESS it is a separate structure(like a tripod) that supports said equipment WITHOUT attaching itself in anyway to the building...

However, according the FCC rules, you CAN mount it on the balcony railing (for example). You would need to make sure that the dish does not hang out over any "common area" though. If it leans back, or is even/flush with the railing, then there are NOT allowed to be restrictions, except in very specific instances.

That's a good start, but I can think of at least one way to still control such an installation. Re-read the FCC rules - the "loophole" is in there.

That's pretty much what I was saying. Restrictions CAN be imposed in specific circumstances.
