i have had ongoing issues with several parts of my body for the last 10 yrs. I have had surgeries and therapy. i only actually sought medical help when the pain and the mobility became so severe that i was unable to make it through a day. I saw specialists and never really had a medical doctor until now. The question is: i now find myself unable to find employment because i can no longer pass any of the physicals, or even attempt to follow my degree because of the physical demands. i also am unable to find employment in any of the fields that i have experience in or education relating to. I have finally deceided to seek medical treatment and have a home base doctor. The outlook at this point is not good, i am seeing the first of four specialists through his guidance and follow thru, it seems that I have concerns already and that this process and repair of my body is going to be extensive and long. I need the income of employment to continue to keep the things that i have purchased. Is disability an option for me? Can i file?

There is a Federal SSI program if you have never worked and have little in assets, and a Social Security Disability program if you have a qualifying work history.

In either case you have to prove that you are NOT able to take ANY JOB available in the US economy in substantial number. That would mean if you were a Physician and now because of your disability all you can be is a gate operator, you are not disabled....
