My daughter and I were shopping at a mall in Pa. The head of the mall security approached my daughter and said that she could not where what she was wearing to the mall again. He said some people had said something. I was shocked so at the time did not know what to say. She had on pants and her her thong side straps alittle above the pants you you sould see them. Her pants were not at all low. He specifically pointed to her thongs. After I got home, thought about it and tlaked to several people we were in total agreement that he has no right to do this. No one else is singled out for wearing their baggy pants and their "boxers" showing. Or some of the women and girls bra straps and sometimes the whole bra showing or very very low cuts shirts or short shirts. I feel this is discrimination and he should not have this right to tell my daughter she can't wear it. What do you think? Please e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks so much!

Thanks for visiting our board, but this is not the right board to post this problem/question on. Your daughter's problem is not related to her employment (presuming she is working).

Whether the security guard was properly enforcing a local or state deceny law, only a local attorney would know. Based on what you wrote, that is the only apparent reason for his action. In other words, he didn't stop her due to her gender, race, religion, et cetera.

Good luck. Do consult a local attorney about your state's or county's deceny laws or laws relating to proper attire in a public or private setting.

If the mall has no dress code specifically prohibiting such wear, then the security guard has no right to discriminate.
