As the law passed last year did away with this category of deduction for the years 2018 through 2025, the taxpayer does get to deduct this if it was paid in 2018.
Thanks for the replies. I have what I believe is a good accountant and he told me I was out of luck on writing off the legal fees. Due to my past attorney experience some research seemed appropriate.
The 2% rule would not have helped much but the above line deduction would have made a huge impact. Some is better than none so I'll pay the tax and be happy 5yrs of grief is over. May just buy a nice SUV and take the 100% deduction.
