What is the name of your state?New York
I've been disputing the attorney charge with a major credit card company stating that the services requested (action of divorce) were not provided by him and he fraudulently negotiated with the adversary not retained for the action of divorce which he didn't tell me about and I found out after I fired him. I also notified the credit card company that the attorney committed fraud by falsifying bills and presenting them as support documentation. In order to stop me from contacting Amex the attorney started charging me thousands of dollars for his own correspondence with Amex and since I didn't stop presented me with defamation lawsuit. He's not mentioning in his lawsuit that there's a dispute and doesn't mention either that I accuse him of falsifying the bills. How come the dispute with a credit card is the ground for defamation? Isn't it a consumer right? I also requested the credit in the amount of the charge directly from him originally. How do I address his complaint of defamation?

A: Hire a lawyer to represent you and file a complaint with the NY state bar:

Thank you for the info. I filed the complaint prior to his filing defamation. I still have to address his complaint. it's a huge thing to hire a lawyer and go through all these motions. basically have to spend serious amount of money just because he filed this ridiculous complaint. any counter measures I can take? can i make him pay for the expenses i'm incurring? how valid is his claim anyway? do i have to have an attorney for this or i can contact the court/clerk/ anything like this?

A: No, the court or clerk will not help you. Find a mean lawyer who wants to file suit against this guy for filing a frivolous complaint and all the other stuff he has done. You never know, you might get punitive damages.
