Dear Counsellor,

I would like some advice from you. I got married last May and joined my husband in CA on a tourist visa. Since the start of my stay with him, I have been harrsed and mentally tourtured and treated like a domestic help and used as a means of sexual outlet. I have been made to believe that I have a mental disorder. I was made to see a doctor who diagnosed me to be mentally well. However, he has tried by all means of proving me mentally ill. When the doctor failed to issue a certificate of metal defect, my husband compelled the doctor to prove me having behavioral disorder.

I was ill treated by all the members of his family living in the house. Father & Mother in-law, a mentally ill elder brother.

I was sent back to my parents in India after two months of getting to my in-laws home. I returned back to my husband after two months. The treatment once again did not improve infact became worse. My parents were called in person and humiliated and threatened for over three months.

I have once again been tricked out of my in-laws home and sent to friends in Canada. Once I arrived in Canada, I have been told by my husband that he has filed for a divorce and that if I do not respond within the required time frame it will be considered a default. He apparently has filed for a divorce agreeing not to give me any alimony or any kind of compensation.

The last six months have been very greulsome for me and my family and I would like to ensure my parents and me get back some compensation of all the financial expense they have had to go through.

I am not aware of the divorce laws in LA - CA and would appreciate whatever advise you can offer. My parents are now back in India and the divorce laws are completely different there and bear no meaning in CA.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Regards
RC

What compensation are you after ?? money for their flights ? How long were you married ?

I am not sure what you want from him but I can not imagine you will be able to be compensated for any of these expenses. The only thing you can try for is 50% of any marital assets.
