Dear Councellor,

Thanks for your response. I did reply back and asked you for clarifications, however, have not heard back from you.

I got married in May 2000, accommpanied my husband from India as a visitor with him (as suggested by him). I was sponsored by a family friend of my parents, not my husband. From the day I entered my husband/in-laws home, I have been ill treated by each living member in that home i.e. father & mother in-laws, mental brother-in-law and husband. When I started standing up for my self, I was sent back to India (i.e. 2 months after I arrived i.e. July 2000). I was told I was being sent on a vacation. I forcefully returned to my husband in September 2000. The treatment became worse. I was physically abused and mentally tortured. My husband taped my ever conversation, called the police on me, when I stood up to them for all the harressment they were putting me through. My husband had no time for me and used me as a sexual outlet and my in-laws just treated me like a household servant.

I was tricked into leaving LA again on 4th Jan 2001 to family friends in Canada. HE promised to send me money, and come and visit me too. Once I have arrived here, he has told me he has filed for a divorce, and he will be sending me papers which I have to sign or else it will be a default and I he will win. He mentions that I have no claim on any sort of settlement from him. He says he does not owe me any money or compensation.

I am not sure what all this means. It appears he has been playing a game with me from the start. He did not show any signs of making me feel a permanent resident by applying for a spouse visa. He kept telling me I was mental and needed treatment. I was given a routine to work for 8/10 hours in the house doing all the cleaning, cooking, washing, ironing and not treated as a new wife in that house. My mother, father & brother-in-law we home all the time picking on me and knagging me all day long. I also had to look after a 6 yr old nephew. He took me to a Doc who said he could not treat me as I was not mental. Since then, he has been even more aggressive. I'm not quite sure what he wants and has been trying to prove.

Do I have a case to fight for my rights as his wife? How can I get compensation (whatever I am due). What are my rights as his wife. I have no clues what CA laws are like. Please give me whatever information you can. I will really appreciate your advice.

Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Regards
RC
