Divorce and Life Insurance

I am requesting information for my brother. He is currently going through a divorce and his ex wife is trying to force him to get a life insurance policy and have his 5 yr old son named as beneficiary. He currently has never purchased or paid any life insurance policy on himself. However my parents purchased a policy on all of their children when we were small and have continued to pay the premiums with them as the beneficiary. His ex wife has asked my parents numerous time to put her as the beneficiary and they have not. She and her lawyer now are insisting that that same policy belongs to my brother and trying to force my parents to make his son the beneficiary. Is this legal. We are in Illinois.
