I am relaying a message from a friend of mine that she wrote to me and i wanted to know if anyone could help with this situation, and provide sometype of advice.

Im 16 years old, and i live with my biological mother, my stepfather and their three children. My mother is very abusive to me and to my sisters physically and emotionally and i wanted to know if there was anything i could do about this legally. My friend was telling me the only option that i had was to divorce my mother because she and she alone is my legal guardian, but will his effect her parental rights to her children seeing how my parents are going to get a divorce? I live in the sate of Maryland
I would appreciate a responce as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance.

Does the girl know who her biological father is?
Option 1) Have her call a law office and talk to someone, a lot of them are free of charge.
Option 2) There is also the possibility of emancipation, It can be reached at the age of 18, being married, or earning one's own living. Independence, freedom from parental control. When a young female marries a young male, it is then considered the "husband"'s duty to support her and her parents are relieved of that responsibility.
Option 3)Guardianship of a child, is subject at all times during the minority of the child to the control of the court. The guardian may be removed and replaced by another at any time when, in the opinion of the court and the welfare of the child demand a change...In most states, a child older than 14 has the right to select his/her own guardian, subject to the approval of the court.
I hope that this will help you a little...
