Married 15 to wife with a history of Bipolar & borderline personality disorder. She is on SSI disability -apprx $700/month, has not worked for 13 years, does not require hospitalization, but ongoing drug Rx's & therapy. I was aware of "a long history of manic depression", but was unaware as to the depth of the issue. Her family says she will always have a place to stay; they sympathise with my position, but will not confront her.

She thinks that if we split she will get the house, her 2001 vechicle, and support/alimony from me. There has been no misconduct on either side. Just I make over 70K per year and she thinks that the world and I "owe her".
What would a court/judge/abitrator do with this? I don't won't to make things worse, but she's had a free ride for 15 years and I do not see why I should be made to carry this into the future.

If she became disabled during the marriage, your chances of being ordered to pay maintenance would be pretty high in Indiana. In addition, the fact that she has been deemed disabled by a government entity doesn't help your case, either.

However, in Indiana, there's a three-year cap on it, so it wouldn't be a lifetime commitment.

In Indiana the rates you would pay are similar to what you would pay in child support.

Don't know how the laws apply in Ohio, but you can find out with a couple of phone calls to attorneys who offer free consultations in Ohio.

Sounds like a tough situation. Best of luck to you.

Her mental/medical history goes back at least 10 years before I met her; only after we were married did she apply for SSID. It is very well document and her whole family would agree.

I am just soooo tired of trying to carry everything - work, house, bills, yada, yada
