I posted a question, but it seems to have disappeared and I really need a reply soon. I have a friend...actually it's a friend of a friend and she says it's taking time and a great deal of money for her to obtain her divorce since she is legally married in 4 states. (Actually, I thought once you got married anywhere you were legally married in all of them. I know...I'm a bit hostile about the situation and it shows. Let me ask my question.) This is what she tells him.....she and her husband come from seperate states. (That's 2 states in her mind.) They were both in the military and that's where they got married. (This is her third state.) They now live in Alaska. (The forth state.) She tells him that she has to file papers in all 4 of those states in order to get a divorce. I don't buy that. I think she's giving him a story and he's falling for it. Isn't a divorce that's filed and obtained in Alaska good everywhere you've lived? And she also says it will cost more because of this. Can you also tell me the approximate cost of a divorce these days. Thanks for the help.

Well I'm no lawyer but I thought that I could answer this one from exp. I was married in Danmark. I'm from NY. The soon to be X is from Germany. I live in Connecticut and we are divorcing in Oklahoma with no problems. So tell your friend of a friend to go see a lawyer and get the ball rolling. If no-one has anthing to ask the other for then he can go to and get a divorce kit and a Parralgel which would be much less then a lawyer. A divorce that isn't totally agreed upon the amount he will spend will be great. A divorce kit and a parralegal could run a few hundred. Don't quote me on that I'm doing mine through a lawyer and it's going to be some bucks.
